Almost the worst day evah!

I started the day waking up late. I had a sequence of events that just should not happen in one day.
As I was getting Buds school bag together I realized he got his school pictures. They are horrible. No wait, let me rephrase. They are really cute and Bud looks good, but there is this fuzzy shadow on the picture. I called the photo place and they said proudly "well ma'am that is our premiere touch" I said yes I realize that, but I specifically indicated that I did not want the premiere touch on his pictures and I wrote it on the envelope. " OK ma'am send in the packet and we will re-develop with out the premiere touch. It will take an additional 4-6 weeks to get them back." I asked if they will be back in time for Christmas. " Ma'am I would hope so" OK that is it, it was the third time she called me ma'am even after she asked me my proper name. So I said please; call me mommyrox, I hope that I get his pictures in time for Christmas. After all I recorded correctly that I didn't want your premiere touch service. She had the nerve to say "yes ma'am". Forehead slap forehead slap forehead slap. So now I am rushing out of the house. I stop by my favorite coffee spot to order my XL triple triple. I get to the office and I realize that my triple is a hot chocolate. Nowhere in the world can you replace coffee with hot chocolate. I don't care who you are. So now I am coffee deficient and a bit grumpy. I get my act together and start my job counting beans and I realize the the head beanie is not in. I needed the head beanie and I had to either use the head beanie's beaner or go tho the side beanie. I went to the head beanie's beaner. He was in and out all day so he could not help me. Then my bean counting program shut down. I was not only beanless I was with out a beanie. I left for the day and went home to upload some pictures to the computer from last night, and apparently all of the pictures I had on my camera were erased. I work in a place where there is an apparatus that if you get too close your phones and cameras erase the memory. Guess what... I got too close. My pictures were all erased. From Halloween last year to yesterday. That will teach me.
I decide that I am going to have dinner and sit and eat chips and dip for the rest of the evening.
Dinner was gross and the chips were all broken in the bag. For the grand finale the hubs enlightens me with his new found discovery of poison ivy. Calgon take me away!

Thank goodness that day is over!

3 in 2

In our house Halloween came and went. It was honestly nothing spectacular. Bud went to the Amerks game to trick-o-treat in the suites. It was a frenzy of sugar, and he liked it. He really does not care how much candy he gets. Yeah for me. Most of it goes with the hubs to work since Bud only eats the M&M's and the kit kats.

Saturday the hubs took a vacation day so that we could go to Buds first official league hockey game. I also cancelled my scrapbook day with the girls as not to miss it. My brother, his wife and all three children came to see Bud play. I must admit I was pleasantly surprised. I never expected to see them. I will say that the game was not a disappointment. Bud was moved from defense to offense and he was the third line center. Now being third line is nothing to brag about, that is the third shift on the ice and usually not much play. Bud is also only 6 and he is playing with 7-8 year olds. His second shift out he scored his first "official" goal. This is big, since the league keeps stats in this division. The team did go on to win in a shut out 8-0. He also had a game on Sunday. There was a pancake breakfast fundraiser that we had Sunday morning and it was great. We served over 190 people. Thanks to Applebees for supporting the team. Anyways, we had to be on the ice at 4:00 Sunday. Bud once again played third line center. This time he scored the first and second goals of the game. The team did go on to win 6-2. As far as stats go Bud has 3 goals in 2 games (3 in 2). I know not all games will go this way, and that he can't win them all, but we will celebrate the wins when they come. After all this is what he works so hard for.

This and That

So much and so little time.
We have been so busy with so much going on that it is incredible we even have time to breathe. Buds hockey once again it taking off at record pace. He has either games or practices 3-4 days a week in the city. I can not imaging how people with 2 kids do it. I have to make choices about where I am going and what meetings that I go to since he has hockey all the time.

We had to make a quick visit to the Dr yesterday, I thought he had strep. Nope. Got lucky on that one. He did get a flu shot and at 12:00 he woke up screaming that his arm hurt and he could not breathe through his nose. So I medicated him appropriately and back to sleep he went. Not me, I was up. Bummer!

I was reading the news today and I am not declaring which side of the political fence I am on, but I wanted to make a few statements. Assume nothing. I honestly like both candidates and can see myself voting both ways. I do not like EVERYTHING! that both parties do, but I agree with a bit of this and a bit of that.

Just because I am a hockey mom do not think I automatically align with Mrs. Palin. Yes, I have Versace glasses that are rimless and I have had them for 5 years. I like them and I am not a Palin copy cat.

If you go to a rally or protest do not be a fool. Do not jump on cars, and throw things. You look like a fool. It is hard to separate yourself from that group of idiots.

Stop the name calling. You are all adults and need to act that way. When my 6 year old says "mommy why does the man on TV say the other man is fibbing? Why doesn't he have to take his words off TV?" I say that while one man believes that the other is fibbing, the other one thinks that he is not fibbing. His reply is "mommy if they can't agree they need to not have any of it on TV." There you have it folks the younger they are, the more innocent they think, the more correct they are. You got it kiddo - lets leave the advertising to all of those Christmas toys that are being peddled now. Umm yeah that's right?

A beautiful day

I have just learned that a beautiful baby girl was brought in to this world by a very strong mom with the support of her equally strong dad.
I am sure that they are going to be the kind of parents that a child in this world sorely needs.

Finley Rose I wish you health, happiness and much love.

Idiot and tbtine - Job well done and here's to never having a good nights sleep ever again.

God Bless!

Duhhh

It would appear that some of the husbands of the friends I have are idiots.

Lets take my friend Mrs. Hockey mom' husband.

I was at a birthday party for a friend of Bud's and the father of said friend says "What makes this cake different from wedding cake". I looked at him as if to say dude what are you taking about?
He then continues and says "what is it about wedding cake that turns off your sex drive?".All the while looking at me.
I looked at him and with out skipping a beat I say "Oh no, it is not the wedding cake. In fact I believe that the sex drive is great until you have us create more people in the world like you, and then you expect us to do all of the work to care for them and you, all the while not being able to go to the gym so that what used to be a size 4 is now a size 14. AND THEN you expect us to like ourselves as a size 14. Now, if you would help out with the children and say to your wife...Hey honey I have a spare couple of hours. I'll take the kids (meaning cook and entertain) and I will clean the house and start two loads of laundry, while you go to the gym and then get a massage; the sex drive may miraculously return after a couple of weeks. Get it!" Jacka$$.

You see as great a friend I have in Mrs Hockey her hubs forgets who he is talking to when he engages me in conversation. I love idiot men. Correction. I love putting idiot men in their place.

Enjoy life!

p.s

Congrats to The Idiot and tbtine on their new addition, and YEAH to Auntie Snarx! Nieces are great!

Weekend Blast

As predicted the Spirit of America was truly an amazing event. This first part of the show was re-enactment of the historic wars and it had cannons, horses, amazing song performances, and actors. The second was more contemporary. There were drill performances and marching, music selections from the 70's-today. There were no political views in music selection which made it better. It was a performance by active duty reservists and infantry men and women who serve the army as entertainers. I was pleasantry surprised.

They do not tour on a regular basis and the show is free. If it is in your neighborhood GO. It is worth it.

Bud had hockey Friday, Saturday, and Sunday this weekend. He fell apart on Sunday and I felt bad, but what am I supposed to do? He wanted this, I just hope that they break it up a bit so it is not all three weekend days all the time.

We had the remnant's of Ike in out neighborhood. Man o man those winds were powerful. Granted it was only about 55-58 mph, and we have very minimal damage compared to those in direct contact it was still amazing. We do have power lines down in she surrounding counties and we personally lost power from about 11:00 last night until 8:00 this am. Trees are down and to be honest when trees that are over 150 years old are lost it is a bummer.

Well, all in all it was a busy weekend. Since school has started I am running like crazy!

Catchn' up

So we began 1st grade and Bud is loving it. Yesterday he fell off the monkey bars and lost his breath. He was very scared. I got the call from the school nurse and he rested there for about 2 hours. He even ate his lunch there.

The best part is that his teacher and the school nurse called me after school and gave me all the detail as to what actually happened. I love his school for caring about the family and the child. He is a boy's boy and he takes hard hits in hockey, but still he is only 6 and had no protective gear on. Unless you count his "super fly" sneakers. He has these Adidas sneakers that Run DMC used to wear in 1980. He loves them!!! There are bruises on his back and they look messy, but he can move up and down, touch his toes, twist and turn. All that and he says I feel ok mommy! Great off to school you go!

He did make the Mite "A" team. That is birth years 00 and 01. Bud is a 12/01 so he is barley there in age, but he made the "A" team which is typically 2nd year Mite kids, and the "B" team is 1st year kids.

I will say he worked really hard. He skated better than I have ever seen him skate during the evaluations. I am a proud of his efforts and he knows it.

So that's all for now. I am going to see the show Spirit of America this weekend. I am really excited, and I will update about it.

enjoy life!

Wow you look your age!

OK I know I've said it a million times before and I will say it a million times more I have been super busy.
I will go with recent items first. I got my hair cut yesterday and I did not realize how bad my hair looked before. I got a more stylish cut and everyone says that they love it. According to Bud I look my age for once. So the next logical question was how old do I look? "Older than dirt" is his reply. Yeah. Thanks kiddo.
The Jets have signed Brett Farve....(in a most sarcastic tone) Joy! I am not a fan of Farve, but I love my Jets.
I have once again been assigned a new supervisor at work, and let's just say proper communication is not her thing. I do not mean please and thank you proper. I mean speaking with an ounce of respect.
Bud & I went camping last weekend.. It has been 25 years since this lady has been camping. I did enjoy it. I think I will have to go again next year.
The disturbing this was a big huge custom road sign that was on a property just outside of Springwater that read........"No trespassing.....Property is protected by Pitbulls with AIDS" The house on the property was a trailer. Now come on. Nothing against trailers, but really the sign? Is it necessary? If I was not so disgusted with the sign, I might have taken a picture, but it was in clearly poor taste! That being said Bud and I are going to Canada to visit the extended family.

The Who-Flaming Lips-Incubus

I must admit I was not too terribly excited when I heard that VH-1 was doing a Rock Honor for The Who. After all those channels cater to the teen or post teen wishing they were a teen age group. I was an on and off follower of The Who growing up. The only reason for that my brother was an avid fan and I did not want to like ANYTHING he liked. Hey, I was a kid. Around 9:30 last night the hubs and I were channel surfing and saw a peek of the tribute show. The band on stage was Incubus. I do enjoy listening to all of the bands that performed such as The Flaming Lips, Foo Fighters, and Pearl Jam to name a few. I must say if you can get past all of the advertising and crap the show was great! I loved all of the performers, loved the tributes, and the performance from The Who was amazing. I had missed the Foo Fighters since they were the first act, but the rest of it was great. I am sure it will be on again and again and again and again since it is that type of channel, but watching it last night was awesome. Despite the over 60 age of the The Who it was impressive. Nothing can replace the windmill from Pete Townsend. Nothing. If you get a chance to see it do so, I am going to invest in the soundtrack since the performances were that great. I know die hard fans will say nothing can replace the original, but like I said I am more of an Incubus, Flaming Lips fan.

Some sunshine even on a cloudy day

I went to the doc's yesterday and have been waiting on an update, so I called home to see if I had any messages. The hubs is home with Bud today and so I chatted a bit with him.
Just before hanging up he says we need to do something special for Bud.
My thought is that he is sooo spoiled by grandparents that I can not fathom why we would need to do that.
He said that while he was getting everything ready to clean the gutters, it started to rain and the rain was getting harder and harder.

He decided to cover the gutter stuff and wait for the rain to pass. Good idea as I would rather him not be atop a metal ladder in a storm. Anyways, as he entered the house from the downstairs in laundry room he saw the clothes that were outside on the clothesline were now on the clothes bars in the house.
He went to look for Bud and saw him in his room making his bed and tidying up his shoes. Hubs said he asked Bud what's up? Bud said he heard the thunder and wanted to be helpful so he took all of the clothes off the line and hung them up. "figured he could clean up the shoes while he was in a cleanin' mood"
Hubs said he gave him a hug and went down to see his handy work. The hubs was impressed and said for a 6 year old he did a great job. He did pull the clothes off the line since he could not reach the pins, so I told the hubs to take a picture of the clothes line. Only because I do not want to forget this story.

OMG let me tell you something......

This is how someone I know starts a conversation with me. Not that I don't like it, but honestly, think about what you would like to share with me. Then think about the "story" behind it, since that is what you are going to get in to anyways. Over the last 45 days there have been several people that have shared somethings with me that I did not need to know. Some are funny, and some are down right gross. So I am going to share this with you. Remember this is what I was told not my personal news.

Used car sales guys are snakes.
Ya think???
Pink eye can come from herpes
eewwww gross!! TOUCH NOTHING!
Your child stayed up till midninght last night
not at my house, and while were at it, let's revisit the sleepover rules
I was a lactating stripper 3 jobs ago
Was that supposed to raise my already low opinion of you?
I win movie tickets for my dog/cat
great, do you share the popcorn too?
My daughter is over 30 still single, lives at home. Do you know anyone for her?
Yes, a shrink

Now as I mentioned there was more to these stories, but that is how they started. I can honestly say I do not care.
If what you are about to tell me has a OMG behind it or did I ever tell you....it means that there is a story behind it and I am very afraid of what is going to come out of your mouth.

Normal people carry on a conversation and will share tidbits of information. I am OK with that and would hope that what you tell me is informative, funny or even random time filler conversation. Not some elusive part of your life that people do not need to know.

next.......

My beloved Amerks are on the up and up. There was a ton of drama about them. They have a new owner, are now affiliated with the Florida Panthers, and are looking to have a improved season. let's hope!

Hockey camp starts soon and I am looking forward to outdoor camping with Bud. It should be fun. The hubs can't go he has to work. Next year. We are also planning on the state fair. this year. Yeah!!!

Congrats to Kate & Bill on their new baby boy Jack. All our best to you. These happen in 3's so there ought to be 2 more on the way. After all I just found out they were pregnant 3 weeks ago. I am so out of touch.

Kidney Stones

I have heard that they are very painful. I am trying to do as much research as possible. Right now it is more of an annoying pain, but I have all of the prescriptions needed for the holy crap that hurts pain. I can not get in for an ultra sound until next Wednesday. So until then it is water and cranberry juice baby! I would write more, but I got some research to do.

Hearing Aids

I was at a dinner the other night where the average age in the room was 60. Now that is a far cry from my age. In case anyone is wondering.
The dinner was for our service organization; Rotary. We had a change over dinner for the out going Governor.
The meeting began with the pledge of allegiance, a patriotic song, and a word of thanks to the past district Governor which we traditionally stand for. Now the place where the dinner was held seems to be not only a restaurant, but a reception hall for weddings as the floor was that fake wooden type. Nothing against them mind you. The chairs we were on were not for a wooden floor since when you push out the chair or slide yourself in it is NOISY! Almost like thunder rumbling. So for the first 15 minutes there are people getting up and down with that awful chair noise. The next item on the program was a presentation from the local high school drama club who preformed Grease for the final show during the school year. They were quite lovely, but I am getting ahead of myself.
The elderly gentleman sitting next to me is unable to hear, so he pulls out his box of hearing devices, and as the introductions for the ensemble are starting he is putting them in.
In the movie Grease the opening piece is a patriotic song, therefore the high school ensembles first song is patriotic and just as this group starts the second line the gentleman (hearing aids all in and functioning) blurts out "Why aren't we standing?" He missed the part about introductions and this being a performance.
Then....yup you guessed it all 160 chairs start rumbling across the floor in the middle of the song. It was an awkward type of standing up. Some thought he was right and others were like he is a crazy old man, but we won't embarrass him. Once the song was complete all of those chairs rumbled back in all the while the performance was going on.
I am afraid of getting old. Very afraid.

Note to old men (should you read this):
PUT YOUR HEARING AIDS IN BEFORE LEAVING THE HOUSE.

What to do?

I have no idea what I am going to do. The 4th of July is in 3 days and we have nothing planned. We have only a few family days a year and this is one of them. I would like to do something fun and exciting, but I have no idea what. I was thinking about going in to the city to see the Laser light show. It ought to be good, but I do not think that the hubs would enjoy it. I will keep you posted.

There is not too much going on work is still crazy busy and I am tired. I think I need a soda. Yup. I do.

that being said......

Fashion Statement

I sent my child to school yesterday wearing clothes that would be appropiate for him to go to the country club in the afternoon (half day of school). That would be a pair of khaki shorts and a polo shirt. I also put on a clean pair of socks and sneakers.

My dad picked Bud up from school and he called me up at work (because this was oh so important) to ask why I would let Bud go to school wearing a pair of socks and his Adidas flip flops. My reply was "whadda ya mean? He had on sneakers." Apparently he put his flip flops in his back pack and switched at school. I asked him why he did that he said "Fashion Statement".

I was unaware of the Fashion Police showing up on the last day of kindergarten.

I suppose in 1st grade he will be sneaking clothes in his bag and changing in the bushes. Lord knows where he would get that from.

Time flies

Holy Cow.....
Time flies when you are so busy.
Today was the last day of school for Bud. As he boarded the school bus for the last time I felt a pang of sadness. First grade here we come....or so we think. I told Bud that I have not heard who his teacher is for 1st grade and therefore he may not go. I am so mean. I know that since there are 11 kindergarten classes they are not sending out teachers until next month. Besides how else are we going to keep those secretaries employed.

So what has happened these past 4 months?
Her it is (condensed version)

We successfully completed another hockey season.
Got older with out telling anyone.
Had a surprise party for my hubby who hit the big 4-0.
Volunteered a week of vacation for the 24th year at the Wegmans LPGA.
Kept my job and actually enjoy it.
The curse of mommyrox did hit, my boss quit. So it is official every job I have had post college my boss has quit before me.
Hired 2 people to help me at my job.
Signed Bud up for swimming lessons, because I couldn't bear for him to have my swim technique.
Remember that bathroom task I started months ago. Yup.. still not done.
I am feeling better (knock on wood) my health has made a swing for the better.
My husbands divorced parents are "seeing" each other. In fact they are on vacation for 12 days right now!

I think that is about it. I am sure that are more things, but listing them all really would take a long time.

I should be back in the swing of things soon.

Whaddya mean busy

Here I go again. I am so darn busy I can't stand it.
My brother's wife had their 3rd baby. Happy and finally healthy. It was touch and go for a while.
I like my job and my boss. What a concept.
I still have a great hubs, he let's me park my car in the garage on these horrible snowy days.
We have a hockey tournament this weekend in skaneatales (sp?) this weekend. Never been and will probably be so busy not to enjoy it, but it does not matter. My friend Dan gave me a bunch of restaurants to go to.
Bud has been doing well in hockey. One more month till the season is over.
So basically I am still living and breathing and hope to continue to do so.
Oh yeah!!! Bud read to me his very first book on his own. He read all of the words and I am very pleased. He tired and a bit deflated at times, but I am proud none the less. I tell him all the time how his reading is getting better. It is not a false truth either.
So there you have it.

School Pictures

I had to laugh. I was talking to a friend and when I said that bud played hockey and has been she thought I was one of those parents. I said no way. He makes choices on what he wants to do. An example is when HE decided to do hockey camp over Disney. I am not rich, so those kinds of choices need to be made. Anyways that leads me to the new discussion we had. He asked if we were going to go to Disney I said no we only have that option every other year. His eyes got sad and he said with tears welling in his eyes "Does that mean no hockey camp?". Well that means a change of plans. We now have to calculate camp in to the budget again. On top of that there now needs to be a "friends birthday" line on the budget. He gets invited to birthdays like you wouldn't believe. He has had 2 already this year. He has another this weekend. That's $15 per kid. Add in the kids in his class and hockey team, add the to the kids from last years team and the after school program and that's a lot. Now we can't go to all of them, but if you are invited you still send a gift. That is what I was brought up to do. So......

I am missing the point here.

As I was showing her Buds hockey picture the flip side of the holder was his school picture. She laughed when she said he really looks like that all the time? I proudly said yes. He is an individual. So for those of you who have not seen it here it is. Laugh if you must, but there is no one else like him.

Some thing for the masses

There has been so much going on. I have this new job that is really great. It is good for me and a huge challenge. Since I work in the finance field I came into a job that needed someone to make decisions based on experience. Basically do what you need to do and I don't care how you do it.
This is where I need to give props to a former asshat of a boss. He was a jerk to me, but he taught me the right and wrong way to do things. I have taken his method and applied it to my job. Some of it works, some of it still needs to be worked out to fit the current role.

I had to let go one of the clerks that was there and hire a new one. I hired this really cute Asian lady who is in her late 50's. She took an early retirement package from a huge copy company and wants to work. What a concept. She learned everything and does it well.

My sister-in-law had her baby, named him after my brother. My other sister-in-law announced at my sons birthday that she was having a baby. Great more idiots reproducing. She is a freak. There are stay at home moms that are really cool like Ubie and Because I said so Dawn, however my sister in law tells her kids that yogurt is ice cream, they can't have candy at home, but if you want it at other peoples house it is a free for all, and no matter what you buy her kids for Christmas or birthday even thought you buy exactly what she wants you to buy she still says it does not fit and wants a receipt. I have even seen her put stuff we gave her kids on ebay. Gotta love her. NOT! She is the kind I do not like.

So I have been crazy busy. Excuses excuses, but I know I could not come back unless I had my post ready from my NYC trip.

Next on a site from Ubie I had to copy this....... it was pretty neat.

Go to……1. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:Random
The first article title on the page is the name of your band.

2. http://www.quotationspage.com/random.php3
The last four words of the very last quote is the title of your album.

3. http://www.flickr.com/explore/interesting/7days/
The third picture, no matter what it is, will be your album cover.

4. Use your graphics program of choice to throw them together, and post the result as a comment in this post.

Since I am user duhhh I was not able to create my album cover the right way,

My band was called Game Night (throw back to a cheesy 80's band)
My album was called "This isn't even wrong" (huh??)
and the album pict was a picture of a couch with a bunch of dish towels on it. As I n=mentioned before I am a duhh and could not get it to work.

In all it is kinda cool.

Part Two Binghamton to Syracuse

OK this was a while back and now I need to rejoin where I left off on this lovely story.

So.... We drop off the scuba guy and Tracey drives from Binghamton to Syracuse. We leave the driveway and head up THAT hill. As we start to go up it seems a lot steeper than it really was. We ease our way up about 15 feet and all of a sudden the wheels are spinning really fast and we are sliding sideways and backwards down the hill. Yes it is possible if you do not believe me tough nuggies! So Tracey puts the brakes on and we try again only this time we are sliding towards the guard rail and if I was ambitious enough I could have rolled down the window and touched it. So she is really pressing on the gas and trying to get to the spots on the hill that are not covered in ice. She finally gets us to the top and we are all a mess. Panicked and greatful that there were no cars coming up or down the hill. My heart did not regain a regular beat for about 20 minutes. We head out of Binghamton via Interstate 81 North. We are trucking at a decent pace and we come upon an accident on an overpass. No big deal, right?? we slow down and we drive in quiet the rest of the way to Syracuse. Not because I have nothing to say, but the speed limit is 65 and we are going 40. Yup, you read correctly we are going 40. The slush was horrible, the roads are barely visible and we just keep moving. We were in a line of other cars that was about 15 cars and tractor trailers long. All of a sudden an SUV is coming up behind us about to pass in the passing lane. Then it disappeared. I swear that it was there and I broke the silence and said to Tracey..."did you see that car behind you?" She said no she was concentrating on the road in front of her. I said there was an SUV behind us just about to pass and it went off the road and down the embankment. She said "no talking driving". Yes, the roads were that bad. I was going to call it in to the 911 dispatchers, but I could not even see a mile marker on the side of the road. So I had this overwhelming sense of uselessness. I wanted to help and couldn't. We keep going and arrive in Syracuse at 11:00pm. This would be the same time the flight was scheduled to arrive in Syracuse had Tracey and Scuba Bob decided to take it. Now it is my turn to drive. I drive from Syracuse to my mom's home. The roads are as clear as can be. The drive took less than planned and I was pulling in to her driveway at 1:00. Being that our flight wad supposed to land in Buffalo at 1:00, and we would have needed to drive an extra hour after that, we did well. I dropped my mom off at home and proceeded to back track to my house. I got home at 2:00 am.
For the first time in 14 years I have never had to drive and, I would have done that again in a heartbeat, however I now know that I need to plan smarter at the ticket counter.

enjoy life!
